macOS app

The desktop app is a menu-bar app around the miner’s local dashboard (the store UI served by the miner at http://127.0.0.1:7878). It runs the miner in-process, or attaches to a necter-miner daemon that is already running on the machine.

  1. Download Necter-Miner-macOS-universal.dmg from the latest release (Apple Silicon and Intel, macOS 11+).
  2. Verify it (optional): shasum -a 256 Necter-Miner-macOS-universal.dmg and compare with the checksum on the release page.
  3. Open the DMG and drag Necter Miner into Applications.
  4. Open it once. The testnet build is not notarized yet, so macOS says the developer cannot be verified. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway. (Older macOS: right-click the app → Open → Open.)
  1. Wallet. Create a new wallet with a 12- or 24-word recovery phrase (write it down: it is shown once), import a recovery phrase or a private key, or use an existing wallet. Wallet
  2. Bind this Mac to the wallet when asked.
  3. Faucet: request test NECTA.
  4. Discover a project, check compatibility, Subscribe and bond collateral.
  5. Mining starts when your policies allow it. The menu-bar icon shows the state: Mining, Paused: reason, Not set up or Hub unreachable.

The tray menu shows status, today’s tasks and units, claimable rewards, Pause/Resume, Open dashboard, Start at login (off by default), update checks and Quit. Closing the window keeps mining in the background; quitting stops the in-process miner (a separate daemon keeps running).

Notifications cover rejected proofs, serious miner alerts, low collateral, jailing or slashing, new claimable payouts and updates. The app passes power information (AC, battery, low-power mode) to the miner so phone-like policies also work on laptops.

Desktop apps for Windows and Linux are coming soon. Today you can mine on Linux and Windows with the CLI.
